When you feel anxious (4)

When you feel anxious (4)
‘Do not be anxious about anything…’ Philippians 4:6 NIV

Ok, so worry is a spiritual matter. But how do you stop worrying? Lighting a scented candle and taking deep breaths is all very well, but it doesn’t stop an overactive brain from running away with itself. Well, let’s try an experiment in ‘thought replacement therapy’. It’s simpler than it sounds. Whatever nagging thought you have in your head at the moment we’re going to replace it with a thought from the Bible. Example: If you’re currently thinking, ‘I could never tell my mates about my faith, I never know what to say’, well replace that thought with this one: ‘…Be not afraid or dismayed…for the battle is not yours, but God’s.’ (2 Chronicles 20:15 AMP) Now let’s break down our experiment: If all you’re ever thinking is ‘I can’t tell my mates,’ what happens is you don’t tell your mates, you feel lousy about it, you worry about it and nothing changes. But if you’re thinking, ‘The battle is not yours, but God’s,’ all of a sudden the pressure is off, God is big enough to tell your mates, chances are He’ll use your lingo, your mouth to do it, but you don’t need to worry because it’s not about you, it’s about God. It’s that simple. Try it with your own worries. Find a verse from the Bible and replace your anxiety with truth.
