The Right Example!
‘He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Amaziah had done.’ 2 Chronicles 26:4 NIV
The punch line in one cartoon reads, ‘No matter what we teach our children, they insist on behaving just like us!’ One expert says, ‘We teach what we know, but we reproduce what we are.’ How many things do you do without thinking, just because it’s the way you were brought up? How many attitudes have you absorbed without thinking, because they’re the bottomline beliefs of your family? God wants you to show Him forth to the world, not anyone else.
(1) So spend time with God, asking Him to show you attitudes that don’t glorify Him.
(2) Ask Him to help you be the example He wants you to be.
(3) Watch what comes out of your mouth.
When you say one thing but do another your friends will soon lose respect for you. And what’s worse, they’ll think, ‘If you don’t keep the principles you preach, why should I try them?’ Your example has more impact than all your words. Read this Scripture carefully: ‘He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Amaziah had done.’ Some princes in Scripture followed their royal fathers’ example and some didn’t. When you’ve given your life to Jesus, you’ve become a part of the royal family of God. And your Father, the king of Heaven, has high expectations of you and for you—that you will do what is right in the eyes of the Lord, just as Jesus did.
Ask Him today what you need to do to make that possible. Set the example that will glorify Him!
