Heavenly Father: 1

‘They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.’ John 8:27 NKJV

The people in Jesus’ day found it hard to grasp the concept of God as a Father. Lord, king, judge, they understood—but Father? Nah! The Old Testament rarely speaks of God as Father, whereas the New Testament mentions it often.

Until Jesus came and revealed the Father, He remained a mystery. ‘No one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.’ (Matthew 11:27 NIV) And many of us still don’t comprehend His Fatherhood and the rich blessings we have in Him.

‘Father’, God’s all-inclusive name, tells us He is everything we could ever need, while disclosing how He feels towards each one of us. It exemplifies every trait of the best father imaginable. Think what a loving, all-powerful father would do for a needy child. Your heavenly Father will do all that for you—and then some! And when He’s finished doing the ‘then some’, He’ll do some more! When you recognise God as your Father, your fears dissolve and you start to believe that all your needs will truly be met.

Jesus said, ‘Don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the [benefits of His] Kingdom.’ (Luke 12:32 NLT) It makes God happy to offer you the resources of His Kingdom! Why? Because He loves you as much as He loves His Son Jesus! Jesus prayed you’d know with confidence that your Father loves you in the same way as He loves Jesus Himself. (See John 17:23.) As His redeemed child, you have all the benefits that come with membership in ‘the household of God.’ (Ephesians 2:19 KJV)

Stand-Up and Standing Out

Or you’re insane. It’s one or the other.’ The cool thing about comedy, he says, is that unlike, say, a…

How Apollo LTD Got their Name

For Jordon Philips, the hardest part of being in a band is working out what to call it. ‘We’ve always hated naming bands,’ he admitted to Alex. ‘It’s the worst!’ Adam Stark shouted in the background. Read on for the story of how they decided on their name, or listen to the podcast of their…

Jots & Tittles: A Closer Look at a Little Bit of Hebrew

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, He spoke into the chaos in order to bring the universe into being. His first recorded words are: ‘Let there be light.’ (Genesis 1:3 KJV) At least, that’s how we report what He said in English. Just four words. There are even less in…

Each of their amazing feats has a message behind it. ‘Jesus died for U,’ they tell audiences, ‘like the shape of this horseshoe. But if you accept him into your life, He becomes…
